Pedercini-Ortega Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7139 meets at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Solvang on the second Monday of each month at 1800. The post does not have a canteen and is only open during its meetings. Visiting VFW members are welcome to attend the meetings. Dinner is usually served after the meeting.
With few needy veterans in the immediate area, the post focuses it activities on promoting patriotism and respect for the military in its community. The post organizes programs for Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day, often in conjunction with American Legion Post 160 which meets in the same building. Every other year, the post hosts a Veteran’s Appreciation Barbecue where a tri-tip dinner is served to all local veterans and everyone has a chance to meet with county and VA assistance officers. Details on these events are in the blog (bottom of the home page).
Any former or current member of the armed forces who has served in a combat zone is eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Contact Post Commander Alvin Salge for more information at 693-9133.
